WE NEED YOU!
Volunteering at the Games
The JCC Maccabi Games will require the helping hands of several hundred volunteers in order to be a success. We won’t be able to do it without YOU! And now, registering to volunteer is easier than ever.
“We are finalizing an electronic scheduling process [called SignUpGenius] that will keep track of all of the volunteer opportunities,” says Volunteer Committee Co-Chair Lynne Garfinkel. “This online scheduling program lets volunteers see all of the times volunteers are needed and allows a volunteer to sign up for multiple shifts online.”
SignUpGenius will send out email confirmations, reminders, and track open volunteer slots. Anyone interested in volunteering will get an email with instructions for signing up. “We have more than 450 names [of interested volunteers] on the email list right now and are adding to it daily,” says Volunteer Committee Co-Chair Cheri Friedman. Those interested in volunteering need only email Cheryl Dritz (at firstname.lastname@example.org) to let her know to add you to the list.
Volunteers will attend a training session before the Games. This is required, but there will be several opportunities beginning in May and it will only take a half hour to 45 minutes of their time. “We can make it fit your schedules and put your time to good use,” says JCC Staff Liaison Cheryl Dritz.
No matter what your availability, skills, or interests, there’s a volunteer position for you. Some examples include check-in at athletic venues, serving meals, bus riders that help athletes get around, or chaperons at social events in the evenings, just to name a few. Shifts vary from two to four hours per day and volunteers can sign up for multiple shifts at different times.
Volunteering is a great opportunity for anyone to help make a difference in the lives of young Jewish athletes from around the world. “Anyone can volunteer!” says Garfinkel, “You don’t have to have a child participating in the games, or be housing athletes, or even be Jewish! We are looking for individuals, families, company teams and others who want to give a few hours of their time to be part of this exciting opportunity!”
At the end of the day, the JCC Maccabi Games are only possible thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers. “’It takes a village’ is the best way to describe how we will come together to successfully execute the games, and volunteers will be a key part of the success,” says Garfinkel. “Even if you only have two hours to give, you can be part of something great!”
