The JCC Maccabi Games will be an incredible experience for the entire community– including children too young to compete this year. Kids 8-11 years old (by July 31) can participate in Junior Maccabi to be part of the festivities the week of the Games. They won’t want to miss out!
The Junior Maccabi delegation will be the official sign barrers and lead the delegations as they parade at Opening Ceremonies. During the week, Junior Maccabi participants and their families will have access to attend all of the competitions at every venue.
On Wednesday, July 27 there will be a special Junior Maccabi night with dinner, dodge ball, capture the flag, soccer, and a color run. The evening will end with an ice-cream social. “This is the perfect opportunity for this age group to participate in fun, age appropriate sporting events,” says Junior Maccabi Co-Chair Heidi Solomon.
Junior Maccabi participants can also take home Maccabi Games memorabilia with their own t-shirts and trading pins. Although they won’t compete with the older kids, they can experience the Games and look forward to being athletes in the future.
“Junior Maccabi is important because it builds the foundation for participation in the Maccabi games in years to follow and provides children the opportunity to build on Jewish values through sports,” says Solomon. “Our goal is to make sure that the Junior Maccabi delegation has a great time during our Jr. Maccabi Night and has a chance to participate and engage with some of the older participants by escorting them during the Opening Ceremonies.”
Registration is only $36 for the entire week. Junior Maccabi Participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible! Find more information and register online.
The Junior Maccabi committee will also need volunteers for the Opening Ceremonies and Junior Maccabi Night. This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who want to help, but are unavailable during the day. You can register to volunteer online at Sign Up Genius.
“The Maccabi Games are an amazing event that brings the entire Jewish Community together – not just here in Columbus, but from cities across the US,” adds Solomon. “We hope that our youngest athletes will have a chance to experience the magic for themselves.”
