Join The Party!
Social Events at the JCC Maccabi Games
After the competitions wrap up around 5 p.m. each day, the party begins. The week of competition is enriched by a wide array of cultural and social activities. There’s something special planned for each night of the JCC Maccabi Games that gives athletes the chance to hang out with Jewish teens from all over the world, relax, and have fun together.
Athletes get to spend Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday together at social events in the evening. On Tuesdays athletes eat dinner and hang out with their host families.
“The social events are an opportunity to interact with teens across all athletic involvement,” says JCC Program Director and Social Events Staff Liaison Melanie Butter. “Friendships and connections made by teen participants are the beginning of long-term relationships that benefit from social media and expand geographic boundaries. Many teen participants get to know new friends that they encounter in BBYO or youth group events, future college campus involvement, or even within the workplace.”
The theme for Monday’s social event is Maccabi Extreme! From reverse bungee jumping to inflatable obstacle courses to gaga ball, Monday night will be full of excitement. Dinner and activities will take place outside at the JCC barring inclement weather.
On Wednesday, athletes travel to Magic Mountain Fun Center at Polaris. After dinner athletes will have access to laser tag, bumper boats, mini golf, hang-out areas, go karts, and free-play gaming. Go karts will require closed-toe shoes, so athletes who want to race should come prepared.
The Closing Ceremonies will be Thursday night. Athletes celebrate the end of a great week with indoor ice skating, casino games, DJ Matt Ryan, and more. Although the ice rink will be artificial, the skates provided will be standard so athletes who want to skate need to bring socks. The night will end with an exciting surprise finale, to finish out the week with a bang.
“We are excited to show off the expertise of the JCC in planning engaging and entertaining teen programs,” says Butter. “Volunteers are still needed and welcome!” Social events are a great opportunity for those who want to volunteer but are not available during the day.
